Inhalt | "In Manitobas South we visited a Hutterian Colony. Its religious belief and view of the world is rooted in the radical movements of the reformation age (16th century). Today, the German speaking society practices a uniqur combination of communist social life with capitalist economy, but strictly separates itself from the surrounding world. After many years of friendley contacts to various Canadian and American communities, we received the permission to produce an observational documentary film in a colony of 120 souls. Similar to kibbuz and kolchos, the Hutterite community is based on working and living together, on communal praying and even communalized property. The film "Children of Utopia" gives an insight into the daily life of a "Schmiedeleit"- commune out of the perspective of two young Hutterites. They describe their life and their world view in their specific hutterian language (a mixture of tyrolian dialect, high German and english with some Ukranian and Romanian elements). Their perception of the outside world is rudimentary. They regard their own villages as "God's arks in the ocean of wordly sin"." (Quelle: Datenbank Göttingen Ethnographic Film Festival) |
