BiografieKamera, Bauten "Szabo comes from a family of film makers. His father was also a director of photography, whilst his mother was a director. Gábor Szabó graduated in 1975 from the Hungarian Academy of Theatre and Film Art. He was a student of György Illés, who taught cinematographers such as Academy Award winner Vilmos Zsigmond and László Kovács. As a Director of Photography, Szabó has made more than twenty feature films, numerous documentaries, live-music concerts and many commercials, working with several well-known directors, like Imre Gyöngyössy, Barna Kabay Academy Award winner István Szabó. He was the cinematographer of the Academy Award nominated Holocaust drama Hiobs Revolte (1983), Vilmos Zsigmond's directorial debut The Long Shadow (1992) and most recently Snapshots - Bilder der Erinnerung (2002). He made his debut as a film director in 1992 on a short film made in Jerusalem called "Wailing Walls", which won him first prize in 1993 at the International Festival of Short Films in Mons, Belgium."
